
Are you looking to formalize your standing in the surveying profession in Uganda? Whether you are an individual practitioner, a technician, or running a firm, the ISU Council offers specific membership categories to suit your professional status.
Below is a breakdown of the eligibility requirements and specific conditions for each category.
1. For Individual Practitioners
If you are a surveyor looking to join as an individual, there are two primary tracks depending on your qualifications and experience.
Associate & Professional Members
This category is for fully qualified professionals. To be elected by the Council, you must meet the following criteria:
- Age: You must have attained the age of 21.
- Qualification: You must hold a professional qualification acceptable to the Council.
- Experience:
- You must currently be engaged in a branch of the profession in Uganda and have done so for at least one year.
- You must have at least two years of post-qualification practical experience.
- Alternative Path: You may also be eligible if you are ordinarily resident in Uganda and are already a Professional Member of another Surveying Professional Institution recognized by the Council.
Technician Members
This category is designed for technical staff. You are eligible for election by the Council if you meet these conditions:
- Age: You must have attained the age of 21.
- Current Engagement: You must be engaged in the profession in Uganda at the time of your application.
- Qualifications: You must either possess an approved technician’s qualification or have passed the specific examinations laid down by the Council.
Note on Rights: Technician members can attend General Meetings, vote, and elect one of their own to the Council. However, they cannot hold other offices in the Institution or use a suffix referring to their membership.
2. For Companies and Firms
Corporate Membership
If you run a surveying business, your firm can join as a Corporate Member.
- Eligibility: Membership is limited to incorporated companies or firms practicing in disciplines approved by the ISU Council.
- Disciplines: This includes Estate Agency Practice, Building Maintenance Surveying, Land Management Surveying, and others approved by the Council.
- Director Requirements: To qualify, your firm must have at least one director registered (through the ISU Council and Surveyors’ Registration Board) for each and every surveying discipline the firm practices.
3. For Special Membership Categories
The Council also elects members under special circumstances for those who may not fit the standard practicing criteria in Uganda.
